What is BSL?
British Sign Language (BSL) is the preferred or first language of around 70,000 Deaf people living in the UK. Many more people however, with links to the Deaf Community use BSL everyday. BSL is a visual language using its own grammar and principles, produced using the movements of the hands, body, face and head. BSL was officially recognised by the UK Government in 2003.
